Many renowned artists like Peter Paul Rubens, Rembrandt and, more recently, contemporary artists of the caliber of Frida Kahlo and Alexander Calder chose oil paint and metal supports as materials for their artistic expression.
\nSuch objects are affected by a peculiar degradation process: the \u2018art acne\u2019, a phenomenon due to the formation of metal soaps. In order to understand its chemical nature, model samples have to be developed and studied with the aid of proper analytical strategies.
