Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) is an imaging technique gaining ground in Cultural Heritage applications for the documentation of objects and monuments. Based on the ability to reveal textural information of 2D surfaces, RTI is being used for enhancing the legibility of epigraphs, studying manufacturing characteristics of paintings and much more. In parallel efforts for monitoring conservation-restoration processes and damage assessment are currently being developed. Common practices involve specular enhancement and relighting but what more information can be drawn from the acquired data?<\/p>\n

Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI), ou l\u2019Imagerie de Transformation de R\u00e9flectance, est une technique d\u2019imagerie qui se d\u00e9veloppe dans le domaine du patrimoine culturel, principalement pour documenter des objets et monuments. Compte tenu de la capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 r\u00e9v\u00e9ler la texture de surfaces 2D, la RTI est utilis\u00e9e pour l\u2019am\u00e9lioration de la lisibilit\u00e9 des \u00e9pigraphes, l\u2019\u00e9tude des caract\u00e9ristiques de fabrications de peintures et bien plus encore. Parall\u00e8lement, des efforts pour suivre les processus de conservation-restauration et l’\u00e9valuation des dommages se d\u00e9veloppent en ce moment m\u00eame. Les pratiques courantes impliquent l’am\u00e9lioration sp\u00e9culaire et le r\u00e9\u00e9clairage, mais est-il possible de tirer plus d\u2019informations des donn\u00e9es acquises ?<\/p>\n
