{"id":20839,"date":"2016-03-17T11:09:00","date_gmt":"2016-03-17T11:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.he-arc.ch\/projets-recherche\/biopatines\/"},"modified":"2025-12-09T14:16:37","modified_gmt":"2025-12-09T13:16:37","slug":"biopatines","status":"publish","type":"he-arc_project","link":"https:\/\/www.he-arc.ch\/en\/projets-recherche\/biopatines\/","title":{"rendered":"BIOPATINES"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div id=\"contact-card-block_41712012a09fd1994d725569be31b04a\" class=\"contact-card is-shadowed mb-2-5 is-not-contained\">\n  <div class=\"contact-card__inner\">\n                <div class=\"contact-entry mb-1\">\n        Project leader\n      <\/div>\n                      <div class=\"contact-entry \">\n        <a href=\"https:\/\/people.he-arc.ch\/contact.php?id=2100466431\" target='_blank' class=\"simple-link contact-entry mb-1\">Edith Joseph<\/a>\n      <\/div>\n            <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">OBJECTIVES<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The objective of the project is to propose an alternative biological treatment for the conservation-restoration of copper alloys artefacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">PROGRAM<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking advantage of unique properties of carefully selected fungal species, the project relies on the conversion of existing corrosion patinas into copper oxalates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, thanks to their insolubility and stability even in acidic atmospheres, copper oxalates are expected to provide the treated objects with long-term protection and no aesthetical alteration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After initial successful attempts (FP6-EU-ARTECH, 2004-2009 and FP7-BAHAMAS, 2010-2012), the efficacy of the fungal treatment is now improved and validated against ageing procedures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The environmentally-friendly use of microorganisms for restoration of metal artworks that is now proof-tested, could present a breakthrough innovation for the conservation industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">RESULTS<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The project should provide conservation professionals with access to a simple-to-use, reliable, versatile, environment-friendly and low-cost technology, for art objects, archaeological objects, architectural components, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the expected outcomes is the development of an easy-to-use kit dedicated to conservators-restorers.
