To achieve fast and efficient analysis employing low-cost devices

OBJECTIVES

The high cost of scientific instruments and need for skilled professionals limit the application of modern analytical techniques to few social and economic domains of society, hindering a broader application and scientific breakthroughs. It is today possible to achieve fast and efficient analysis employing low-cost devices. These devices, which are, by far, more affordable for SMEs and small organisations, will promote wider use of analytic platforms.

About PortASAP – European network for the promotion of portable, affordable and simple analytical platform – CA16215

PROGRAM

ortASAP aims to work toward this goal by involving scientists working in separation sciences, engineers, chemometricians and other scientific fields, with end-users without expertise in analytical chemistry and instrument manufacturers.

PortASAP covers the following scientific domains:

  • Validation and Dissemination of Open Source Hardware (WG1),
  • Information and Communication Technology and Software Development (WG2),
  • Fields Tests and Application (WG3),
  • Sample Treatment and Microfluidics (WG4),
  • New Instrumentation (WG5) and Exploitation Results (WG6).

Regular meetings involving EU delegates of the action or only members of the WGs (taskforce meetings) are organized to exchange the current knowledge within a broader group, to discuss new themes and provide the possibility for new collaborations.
Important tools of PortASAP for end-users are the training schools for specific topics and the Short-Term Scientific Missions designed to train scientists or professionals from one country represented in COST TD16215 at institutions from another similarly represented country.
