Information on research activities of HE-Arc Conservation-restoration
We are glad to invite you to the CR-UNCH CORINT
A presentation by Ocson Cocen, Elodie Granget and Laura Brambilla.
Come and join us in room 324 or online to discover how multimodal analytical methods can be implemented in cultural heritage applications, particularly iron-based objects!
Learn more about a work package of the CORINT project (Elucidating CORrosion by IN-situ Tomography) led by Dr. Laura Brambilla. The main challenge in studying mechanisms of iron corrosion in the ground is the limited visual and physical access to the object itself when it is still surrounded by the burial medium, i.e., soil. By combining neutron and X-ray computed tomography techniques with conventional analytical methods (such as optical microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and SEM-EDX analysis) and finite element modeling (FEM), the status quo in understanding iron corrosion mechanisms will be challenged and delved into further. This presentation will display several interim results and some of the project’s future milestones.
