Learn more about challenges related to remedial conservation of metal artefacts in the framework of the GoGreen project (Green strategies to conserve the past and preserve the future of cultural heritage). HE-Arc Conservation-restauration focuses on developing innovative green cleaning solutions for historical metal artifacts, particularly tarnished silver objects. These methods inspired from recent development in green chemistry and biotechnology make use of bio-originated microorganisms or greener solvents to safely and effectively clean metals. Key tasks include assessing traditional cleaning methods, developing green solutions, and applying the best-performing methods in real-world scenarios. In parallel, we aim to create eco-friendly stabilization methods for iron and copper heritage objects, using biodegradable and bio-sourced materials. Promising microorganisms are explored to replace harmful traditional treatments, ensuring safe and effective conservation. The presentation will show research results obtained so far.
