Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) is an imaging technique gaining ground in Cultural Heritage applications for the documentation of objects and monuments. Based on the ability to reveal textural information of 2D surfaces, RTI is being used for enhancing the legibility of epigraphs, studying manufacturing characteristics of paintings and much more. In parallel efforts for monitoring conservation-restoration processes and damage assessment are currently being developed. Common practices involve specular enhancement and relighting but what more information can be drawn from the acquired data?
