The exploratory project HOPE-S aims to co-develop, with professional partners and members of the public, a chatbot prototype capable of detecting potential suicide risk and guiding individuals towards appropriate care services according to the level of urgency.

Context:

Suicide is a major global public health concern, causing nearly 700,000 deaths each year. According to the WHO, it is the fourth leading cause of death among individuals aged 15–29. In Switzerland, approximately 1,000 people die by suicide annually. Beyond the human tragedy, the economic consequences of suicide and suicide attempts are estimated at €24 billion per year. Despite the implementation of a national action plan in 2016, the early detection of suicide risk remains a major challenge. The exploratory project HOPE-S aims to co-develop, with professional partners and members of the public, a chatbot prototype capable of detecting potential suicide risk and guiding individuals towards appropriate care services according to the level of urgency.
