Development of a new type of quantitative multiplex tests based on lateral flow immunoassays.

Context and challenges

Bacterial resistance to antibiotics originating from misuse and overuse is becoming a major public health issue especially in developing countries. The cause of infection, whether bacterial or viral, is crucial to provide patients with the appropriate therapy and requires accurate determination.

Objectives

Here, we want to address these needs through the development of a new type of quantitative multiplex tests based on lateral flow immunoassays by combining commercially available portative fluorescence readers with strips of paper modified for accurate quantification of biomarkers.

Results

In the frame of the DiaFev project, we have developed:

  • Latex beads derivatization strategies
  • Blood filtering system to generate plasma samples
  • Successful integration of blood filtration with paper microfluidics
  • Paper-based micro-fluidic system for multiplex delivery of samples
