The specimens conserved in fluid, are a large part of the natural history heritage and present very specific conservation issues like the evaporation of toxic solutions (formaldehyde, ethanol….). For botanical collections, plants’ pigments can dissolve in alcohol and lead to the discoloration of the specimen and opacification of the fluid, making it impossible to display those artifacts or observe the plant without opening the jar.
The LIQUOR project explored different conservation treatments and the use of alternative fluids.

Les spécimens conservés en fluide constituent une grande partie du patrimoine d’histoire naturelle et présentent des problèmes de conservation très spécifiques comme celui de l’évaporation de solutions toxiques (formaldéhyde, éthanol…). Pour les collections botaniques, les pigments peuvent également se dissoudre dans l’alcool et entraîner la décoloration des spécimens et l’opacification de la solution, rendant impossible l’exposition ou l’observation de la plante.
Le projet LIQUOR a exploré différents traitements de conservation et l’utilisation de fluides alternatifs.
